  • 1 lb ground sausage
  • 1012 shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • 4 cups cooked rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1½ cups mixed onions and bell peppers (chopped)
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 1 tsp seafood seasoning
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 3 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)

Instructions

1️⃣ Season & Cook the Shrimp:

  1. Season the shrimp with seafood seasoning.
  2. Heat 2 tbsp vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Cook the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side until pink and cooked through.
  4. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

2️⃣ Brown the Meat:

  1. In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tbsp vegetable oil.
  2. Brown the ground beef and sausage together over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic.
  4. Sauté until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.

3️⃣ Add Seasonings & Flour:

  1. Stir in oregano, thyme, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).
  2. Sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir well to incorporate.

4️⃣ Simmer with Broth:

  1. Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer.

5️⃣ Combine with Rice:

  1. Add the cooked rice to the skillet, stirring everything together.
  2. Let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the rice to soak up the flavors.

6️⃣ Finish with Shrimp:

  1. Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and gently fold them in.
